Link the sub-tasks to the Stories. (meaning you now have the parent child & links set up for the sub-tasks) Create the Epic. Link/Epic Link all cloned Stories to the Epic. Now you have the Epic > Story > Sub-task hierarchy. Bulk Move the sub-tasks to tasks (this will drop the parent/child relationship)
In the project, select the Issues link the left menu. Select the Epic you wish to add the existing task to. At the top of the Child Issues, click the '+' to add a new child. Rather than typing to create a new issue, click 'Choose an existing issue'. Select the issue you'd like to add.
A simpler way is by using an add-on. Hierarchy for Jira lets you create a completely custom issue hierarchy, so you can create levels both above epics and below stories. This makes it easy to create an epic>story>task>sub-task hierarchy and easily link task to stories (or any issues to each other in a parent-child relationship).
I will answer there also. But the quick answer is yes, automation for Jira can do that for you. Here's some information to get you started: There are two types of automation: Global: In the Free version, you get 100 executions per product, per month. Project: In all versions, you get unlimited executions per month.
Execute that search query in the "issue" view of the project. Run "Bulk Change" on the de-linked tasks. Link all the tasks with the corresponding epic. If you only have one epic, is not difficult to do by hand. If your task keys are ABC-1, ABC-2 and ABC3 and your epic is ABC-4, search for.
Yes, you can convert an Epic to a sub-task. Use "move" or "convert to subtask" from the options. But bear in mind that it will no longer be an Epic, and you will lose its epic-link, colour, status and so-on. Yes, If you Have "Move Issue" Permission & "Create Issue" Permission in Jira Project.

This should be possible with Automation for Jira - this is native to Jira Cloud or is a paid add-on for Server / DC. This is how I did it: Go to the Automation rules page and create a new rule; Choose the trigger "Field value changed" - and type in the field "Epic Link" and press enter (it doesn't have to come up in the drop-down)
Edit multiple issues. This bulk operation allows you to edit multiple issues at the same time. The available bulk edit operations depend on the issues selected and the nature of the fields you want to change. Select Edit Issues and select Next. Choose what information to edit.
In the left column, go to Issue types > Add issue type. Enter a name and description for your new issue type. Choose between a standard or sub-task issue type. Standard issue types are placed above the epic level (commonly Initiative and Legend) whereas Sub-task issue types are underneath the Story level alongside subtasks. Select Add. Here is what I would like to do: Create new Epic. Select "Application Packaging" "Template". Using my Epic "Template", Jira automatically creates multiple stories and links them to this new Epic. Research - "Application Packaging Discovery - XYZ". Execute - "Application Packaging Development - XYZ". Execute - "Application Packaging Testing - XYZ". Stories can. When a story that's in a sprint is converted to an Epic, it should be removed from the sprint. Epics don't show up in backlog view (they have their own side panel) so if a story is converted to an epic while part of a sprint, you don't see it as part of the sprint until the sprint is started when it shows up on the sprint board.
Click New Action. On the New Action screen search for and click the Assign issue option. From the Assign issue prompt, select a user who will be assigned issues. Click the Save button. Next you can add an if/else condition to the If:matches condition. If the condition in the If block does not match, then the rule will evaluate the Else block.
Hi all, Our Jira issues are structured like this: Epic -- User Story -- Tasks. There's (typically) 1 Epic per release. We use 1 User Story per 1 webpage that we're updating, then we do 1 Task per each stakeholder (ex: developer, QA, UAT; story points are recorded here).
Learn about changes coming to your Jira Cloud experience. Upcoming changes: Epic link data above the epic level; Upcoming changes: 'epic-link' replaced with 'parent' How are usernames changing in Jira Cloud? Connect Jira Service Management services to Jira Software; How to work with requests; Managing customer requests inside Jira Software Even if you convert any other type to an Epic in an active sprint, you wont be able to see it in backlog View .. See below . You will see Epic in ACTIVE sprint . See, backlog View: You wont see Epic here . JIRA is design in a way that Epics are only visible in active sprint (Scrum board) not in backlog however its other way around in Kanban Board

2 Answers. On the following dialog you'll be able to change the issue type to an epic. Go to edit the story. From the edit page (popup in my case) you can change the story type to "Epic". But - how in this case do you set the "Epic Label". I end up with "unnamed" when I do this. In Add Parameters To Function, select ON_CREATE in the Stage field and click Add. Make sure that your post function is added in the right position and click Publish. Note that your templates have to be of the Epic issue type to make this work. To create such a template, click the Create button, choose Templates as your target project and Epic While it is possible to clone hierarchies with Jira Automation, this can be quite finicky and can break easily if project or issue configurations change. If you are open to use a third-party app, our Deep Clone for Jira can clone whole issue hierarchies, including Initiatives, Epics, Tasks/Stories, and Subtasks. Navigate to the issue you want
There is no provision to create sub-task under Epic. 2. Create a task and link it to Epic. 3. Convert the task to sub-task. I now see, Epic has sub-task and the sub-task panel enabled. I am not sure, is this intentionally provided as a feature or is it a bug? I am using Cloud Jira premium version. Watch.
